Licensure and Accreditation

Licensure

The Commission for Independent Education, Florida Department of Education, Tallahassee, Florida, licenses the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences to offer its degree programs. This licensure includes the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), the Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT), The Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD), the Flex Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree, the transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), the transitional Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD), Master of Health Science (MHSc), and the Doctor of Health Science (DHSc) degrees.

The expansion DPT Program in San Diego is approved by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education, PO Box 980818, West Sacramento, CA 95798-0818, www.bppve.ca.gov, 916-574-7720.

Accreditations and Approvals

The Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) accredited the first professional Physical Therapy program in October 1996 and re-accredited the program in April 2001. The entry-level Occupational Therapy program was accredited with no deficiencies by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) in April 1999. Graduates take the certification examination administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). A felony conviction may affect a graduate's ability to sit for the NBCOT examination or attain state licensure. The University is institutionally accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC) with specific recognition of its MHSc, transitional DPT degree, transitional OTD, and the Flex Doctor of Physical Therapy programs delivered primarily through the distance education format. The DETC is a nationally recognized accrediting agency authorized by the U.S. Department of Education, and is a member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). This national accreditation helps ensure that the school has been carefully evaluated and has met nationally recognized standards of education.

The University of St. Augustine has been approved as an Authorized Provider by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), 8405 Greensboro Drive, Suite 800, McLean, VA 22102. In obtaining this approval, the University of St. Augustine has demonstrated that it complies with the ANSI/IACET Standards, which are widely recognized as standards of good practice internationally. As a result of their Authorized Provider membership status, the University of St. Augustine is authorized to offer IACET CEUs for its programs that qualify under the ANSI/IACET Standards.

The University is a member institution of the Florida Association of Postsecondary Schools and Colleges (FAPSC).
