Karen Howell
Dr. Howell received her bachelor's degree in occupational therapy from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1975 and began her practice at Durham Rehabilitation Center in North Carolina specializing in spinal cord injury rehabilitation. She moved to Charleston, South Carolina where she received her Master degree from the Medical University of South Carolina and her PhD in 1992 from the University of South Carolina. She joined the faculty at the Medical University of South Carolina and became the Director of the Program in 1984. She is currently the Director of the OT Programs at the University of St. Augustine. She has published articles and book chapters primarily in topics on rehabilitation and spinal cord injury and assistive technology. Dr. Howell is certified in Sensory Integration and Neurodevelopmental Therapy. She is also a Certified Driving Instructor for the Disabled. She teaches courses related to neuroscience and neurorehabilitation techniques. She enjoys a small practice with clients who primarily have diagnoses of stroke, head injury or Parkinson's Disease.
