Registration Information

The goal of this seminar is to discuss current research and theories in motor control and how they affect the examination and intervention of clients with neurologic dysfunction. Specific motor control issues are examined as they relate to postural control, gait and upper extremity control. Participants will explore musculoskeletal/ biomechanical, neural, and sensory issues in the control of movement. Motor control problems are related to various neurologic dysfunctions. Issues in motor control and motor learning are also examined as they relate to current rehabilitation procedures.

Learning Outcomes:

At the completion of this seminar the attendee should be able to:

  • Discuss neuroplasticity and its influence on physical recovery.
  • Discuss current research models of motor control and the implications of applying each model to examination and development of therapeutic interventions for a patient with a neurologic dysfunction.
  • Discuss the role that impairments have on disability.
  • Describe the influence of cognition on performance.
  • Discuss common motor control problems seen with various neurologic dysfunctions such as stroke, Parkinson Disease, cerebral palsy, or others identified by the participants and examine the implications to intervention strategies.
  • Identify and discuss concepts and issues in motor learning including structuring practice and feedback delivery to optimize patient learning capabilities.
