Lisa Chase Dr. Lisa Chase's (Core Faculty) undergraduate degree is from Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina where she studied Adult Fitness and Sports Medicine. After undergraduate schooling she had the opportunity to work with the Olympic Committee and Pan American Games in the area of swimming research. Seeing a need to further her education, Dr. Chase went to the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill where she obtained a Master's degree in Exercise Physiology. Upon graduation she became a part of a research team traveling to France to investigate the impact of jet lag on human performance. Returning to the United States, she attended Arizona State University where she pursued and achieved one of the first interdisciplinary PhD's in the country in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Exercise and Wellness. After receiving her doctorate, she taught in the Exercise Science and Human Movement Department at the University of Wisconsin at LaCrosse. While there, she began teaching Exercise Science and Wellness concepts to the Physical Therapy students. She noted that the students knew a great deal about rehabilitation, but were deficient in their knowledge of prevention. Seeing an avenue to, again, further her education, improve her teaching, and impact health care, she returned to Physical Therapy school to gain further insight into the students and the field in which she was teaching. Dr. Chase received her Masters in Physical Therapy from the Institute of Physical Therapy (now known as the University of St. Augustine) in the second class from this institution. Yes, she is an alumnus. At graduation she was awarded the Ray M. Patterson Scholastic Achievement Award. She joined the faculty at the University of Central Florida where she enjoyed a dual appointment as professor in the Physical Therapy Department and also in the Exercise Science Department. Employed by the University of St. Augustine since 2000, Dr. Chase currently teaches the Movement Physiology Laboratory, Therapeutic Exercise I & II and Cardiopulmonary PT She enjoys practicing in an outpatient Orthopaedic practice to supplement her teaching. She is also a certified Emergency Medical Technician who enjoys teaching locally in paramedic and EMT curriculum.
