Joann Gallichio
Joann Gallichio, PT, DSc is currently a faculty member at the University of St. Augustine of Health Sciences in the Neuromuscular curriculum for DPT and DUAL degree students. She received her Masters at the University of Scranton and her Doctor of Science degree from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions.
Dr. Gallichio moved to Jacksonville in 2006 to be the Site Team Leader at Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital for the Locomotor Experience Applied Post-Stroke (LEAPS) study, a phase III, multi-site, randomized clinical trial. After completing the LEAPS trial, she practiced at Shands Hospital as the Clinical Specialist for in-patient trauma rehabilitation. She continues to practice at Shands on a prn basis. Prior to Dr. Gallichio’s arrival to Jacksonville, she spent eight years as a physical therapist at Montefiore Medical Center University Hospital for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, NY where she became an Advanced Clinician and Center Coordinator of Clinical Education.
Through research with the LEAPS trial, Dr. Gallichio has presented nationally at the APTA’s Combined Sections Meeting (2008) and The American Medical Rehabilitation Providers Association’s 7th Annual Rehabilitation Education conference (2009). Publications include an update on Pharmacological management of spasticity following stroke (2004), Virtual reality training for stroke rehabilitation (2004), and the Fugl-Meyer assessment of sensorimotor function after stroke (2011).
Her interests lie in therapy provided in acute care, especially in the intensive care environment, stroke rehabilitation and research and neurologic rehabilitation across the continuum.
