Status: Required for Master of Health Science degree-all tracks

Registration Information

This seminar is designed to prepare the therapist for the responsibilities of direct access by reviewing the normal physiology and selected disorders of the cardio pulmonary, cardio vascular, endocrine, gastrointestinal, musculoskelatal and nervous systems.

This information should improve inter-professional communication and facilitate appropriate physician referral.

Laboratory sessions will include assessment of abdominal cavity, palpation and auscultation of the vascular system, cranial nerve assessment, and lymph node palpation.

Learning Outcomes:

At the completion of this seminar the attendee should be able to:

  • Discuss and implement screening principles for medical conditions
  • Perform selected examination techniques that will help safeguard the patient who may present a medical disease
  • Discuss signs and symptoms which suggest disease rather than dysfunction
  • Determine appropriate physician referrals based on the screening exam
