Applied Musculoskeletal Imaging for Physical Therapists

PT 6505
Tuition: $545.00
21 Hours or 2.1 CEU's
Prerequisite: None

Registration Information

This seminar will discuss the applications of imaging in physical therapy. The imaging characteristics of conventional radiographs, CT, MRI, and ultrasound will be presented, as well as their value in the examination of various disease entities and dysfunctions. This seminar will help the therapist employ imaging in clinical work, for the purpose of modifying treatment and recognize treatment restrictions that may apply. The seminar will discuss clinical presentations for which it would be helpful to obtain further imaging studies or to seek medical consultation. The student will, through interactive exercise, have an opportunity, to review radiographic anatomy and to practice imaging pattern recognition.

Learning Outcomes:

At the completion of this seminar the attendee should be able to:

  • compare and contrast the value and imaging characteristics and clinical use of conventional radiographs, CT, MRI, and ultrasound
  • recognize radiographic anatomy, as well as CT, MRI, and ultrasound anatomy
  • apply a systematic approach to interpreting plain films for the evaluation of arthritis and fractures.
  • analyze patterns of radiographic findings that could apply to many disease processes; findings such as focal and general changes in radiodensity, osseous hypertrophy, soft tissue changes, and osteophytes
  • discuss the imaging presentation of common musculoskeletal diseases and dysfunctions and analyze their functional consequences
  • identify, based on clinical presentations and available imaging studies, the need for further imaging studies and medical consultation
