St. Augustine, FL—January 8, 2015—More than 100 graduates from 29 states, Bolivia, Canada, Jordan, Switzerland and Turkey celebrated their commencement from the Florida campus of the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences on Dec. 12.
“Our graduates have demonstrated the ability to make a difference in the lives of others, the very reason why this university was created,” said Dr. Cindy Mathena, vice president and dean of post-professional studies, who presided over the event. “All of these skills and attributes are hallmarks of a University of St. Augustine graduate and will guide them to be excellent clinicians, educators and members of their communities.”
The university granted several awards to graduates who embodied their program’s mission with attributes including professionalism, clinical reasoning, ethical standards and commitment to professional growth:
- The Stanley V. Paris and Catherine E. Patla Award for Excellence in Manual Therapy: Kaitlyn Louise Smith
- Outstanding Physical Therapy Student Award: Marisa Ann Gopaul
- Outstanding Flex Physical Therapy Student Award: Hayle Lynn Korem
- Outstanding Occupational Therapy Student Award: Meredith Elaine Nackley
- Outstanding Orthopaedic Assistant Student Award: Angela Christina Sanchez
The university also granted scholastic awards for the best cumulative grade point average. The Karen S. Howell Scholastic Achievement Award was presented to entry-level occupational therapy graduate Felicia Patrice McDonald. The Cynthia K. Mathena Scholastic Achievement Award was presented to entry-level orthopaedic physician assistant graduate Jennifer Kristin Hoffman. The Ray M. Patterson Scholastic Achievement Award was presented to entry-level physical therapy graduate Jennifer Lena Brisson.
