Dr. Brian Goldstein Appointed Executive Dean of Rehabilitative Sciences

University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences (USAHS) has announced that Brian Goldstein, PhD, CCC-SLP, will join the university as the new Executive Dean of the College of Rehabilitative Sciences to provide leadership and oversight of all rehabilitative science programs including occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech-language pathology. Currently Dr. Goldstein serves as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at La Salle University in Philadelphia.

โ€œDr. Goldstein emerged as the leading candidate for this role in a comprehensive, national search because of his distinguished career, diverse background, and depth of academic leadership and administrative experience,โ€ said USAHS President Dr. Divina Grossman. โ€œHis many years in health sciences education and as a practitioner make him ideally suited for this vital new role.โ€

โ€œAs the University continues to advance as a national leader in graduate health sciences education, rehabilitative sciences have been and will continue to be the foundation of our history and future success,โ€ said University Chief Executive Officer Vivian A. Sanchez. โ€œWe are pleased to have Dr. Goldstein join USAHS to strengthen academic leadership as we continue our quest to fill critical health care shortages in the U.S. This role will drive the Universityโ€™s continued national progress in academic quality, interprofessional education, research, clinical preparedness, and strong student outcomes.โ€

โ€œI am honored and humbled to be selected as the inaugural Executive Dean of Rehabilitative Sciences at USAHS,โ€ said Dr. Goldstein.ย ย  โ€œI am looking forward to working with the faculty and staff in the College to advance the goals of the University, educate exemplary students, support faculty and staff in their professional goals, and improve the health of the nation.โ€

Dr. Goldstein is an accomplished teacher, scholar and academic leader with more than 25 years of experience in higher education at public and private universities with multiple locations.ย  In his role as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at La Salle University in Philadelphia, he oversaw three academic schools, developed new programs, and led a successful institutional reaccreditation process.ย  He also held the position of Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences at La Salle and served as Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders among other faculty and administrative roles.

Prior to joining La Salle, Dr. Goldstein was the Associate Dean for Faculty and Academic Affairs for the College of Health Professions and Social Work at Temple University in Philadelphia where he also served as Chair of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.ย  While at Temple, he advanced speech-language pathology program rankings, faculty promotion and development, and intra/inter-departmental research initiatives.

Dr. Goldsteinโ€™s clinical experience was as a bilingual speech-language pathologist at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and Rainbow Community Head Start in Philadelphia.ย  His interest and specialization is in speech and language disorders in bilingual populations.

In addition to his stellar career in practice and academia, Dr. Goldstein has been the recipient of two prestigious teaching awards, has published five books and more than 30 peer-reviewed publications, and has presented at more than 100 peer-review national and international conferences with a focus on phonological development and disorders in monolingual Spanish-speaking and Spanish-English bilingual children.

He received a masters and doctorate in speech-language pathology from Temple University and a bachelors in linguistics and cognitive science from Brandeis University. He is a fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and received ASHA’s Certificate of Recognition for Special Contribution in Multicultural Affairs.

Dr. Goldstein will be based at the USHAS campus in San Marcos, California starting in September.
