Board certified in orthopaedic surgery, Dr. Ramon L. Jimenez has been in practice with Monterey Peninsula Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Institute since 2005 and is now Senior Consultant. He is also self-employed performing Medical Legal Evaluations (IMEs, AMEs, QMEs and other consultations). Additionally, he continues to be a member of the medical staff at O’Connor Hospital located in San Jose, California.
After completing a two year stint as a major in the U.S. Army taking orthopaedic care of 36,000 paratroopers with the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, he went on to become President, Owner and Founder of Orthopaedic and Fracture Clinic located in San Jose, California. He practiced there for 30 years. Later he was Medical Director of Central Coast Medical Specialists and Central Coast Arthroscopy Institute in Salinas, California.
Active in various professional organizations, Dr. Jimenez is affiliated with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons; Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons; Western Orthopaedic Association; Santa Clara County Medical Association; California Medical Association; Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF) – Board of Trustees; AAOS, Media Speakers Bureau, Diversity Committee and Chairman; AAOS, Orthopaedic Consumer Book Editorial Board; American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons; and is Chairman of the Committee on Public Relations with the California Orthopaedic Association.
As an orthopaedic surgeon, he has performed over 160,000 patient interviews; done more than 4,200 knee arthroscopies, more than 2,200 shoulder arthroscopic procedures; more than 3,200 total hip replacements (both primary and revisions); and more than 2,600 total knee replacements (both primary and revisions). His spine experience encompasses performing over 1,000 lumbar operative procedures including laminectomies, decompressions, and instrumented fusions. He has been a founding partner of Backcare, Inc., an innovative center for the conservative, non-operative and operative care of the cervical and lumbar spine.
Dr. Jimenez is a consultant reviewer for the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery and CORR (Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Reports). He has been on the editorial board of Orthopaedics Today. He currently serves as editor of the En Espanol section of AAOS patient and public education website www.orthoinfo.org. He is also Founder and President of the American Association of Latino Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Dr. Jimenez has a passion for mentoring medical students, orthopaedic residents and potential orthopaedic surgeon leaders. He is very much involved in programs, such as Movement is Life, which is directed at eliminating musculoskeletal healthcare disparities in the African American and Hispanic/Latino populations. He has pushed this work with his leadership roles in the establishment of three charter high schools in San Jose for English language learners.
Dr. Jimenez earned his bachelor’s degree in Pre-Med from Santa Clara University and his medical degree from St. Louis University School of Medicine. He continued his training with St. Louis University Hospital – Straight Surgical Internship and General Surgery Residency with an emphasis on cardiovascular and neurosurgery at St. Louis University Hospitals. He completed his training at San Francisco Orthopaedic Residency Training Program.
