Dr. Susan E. Saxton is an innovative champion of expanding access to higher education around the world. She has more than 25 years of academic experience during which she has demonstrated strong thought leadership, innovative operational focus, and strategic insight.
Prior to joining the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences, she led the development of Food University as its CEO, under the association of the Imagine Africa Alliance. From 2006 to 2012 at the International Baccalaureate Organization (IB) in The Hague, the Netherlands, she was the chief officer replacing the deputy director general, and subsequently the chief strategy and development officer. She came to the IB after executive roles of chief strategy officer and chief academic officer for Laureate Education, Inc.’s Global Products and Services division.
Before joining Laureate, she was vice president for strategy and product development and dean of students at Kaplan University. Dr. Saxton previously served as dean of the College of e-Learning at Lynn University and was dean of the School of Business and Technology at Capella University in its very early years, as well as dean of the College of Education at Walden University. She formerly was founder, president, and CEO of Computing Solutions Inc., an Internet-related education company that provided consulting and networking for large technology users and vendors via conferences and expositions around the country. In the mid-1980s, she served in the Entrepreneurial Services Group at Ernst & Young, providing consulting services to key international clients, having started her tax and finance career with Arthur Young & Company.
Dr. Saxton has appeared before the U.S. Congress to promote legislation that would broaden access to higher education, and has been engaged with ministries of education across the globe. She also is the author and editor of several articles, case studies, and books on corporate strategy, virtual teams, leadership, online teaching and learning methodology, and organizational management. She is a member of several education-related and university boards of directors across the world, and she participates on a multitude of editorial review boards for academic and business journals.
