Dr. Eric Oestmann, PhD, PT (pronounced ‘East-man’) brings a 30-year distinguished and diverse background in healthcare to the tDPT Program Director position at USA. Beginning with 6 years of active duty military service in the US Air Force as a quality assurance trainer/evaluator, Dr. Oestmann went on to complete a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy working in a variety of settings (e.g., Hospital, Private Clinics, Nursing Home) with emphasis on outpatient orthopedics; shoulder and spine evaluation and treatment expertise. Dr. Oestmann has also presented more than 200 continuing education seminars with Summit Professional Education across the country.
Having taught in higher education part-time since 1997 and online since 2001, Dr. Oestmann was a Contributing Faculty in the Post-Professional programs at USA since 2008. Most recently, Dr. Oestmann was the online program chair for a Masters in Healthcare Management degree and has complimentary healthcare consulting experience with OEI Consulting since completing his PhD from Capella University in 2006. Dr. Oestmann has written and published more than 45 books/chapters/journal/web articles related to healthcare and education since 1995. Continued research and publication interests are ongoing as related to a variety of healthcare and PT topics.
Dr. Oestmann continues professional development and research interests to advance the profession of practice as a member of the Healthcare Information & Management Systems Society (HIMSS), the National League for Nursing (NLN), American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), and the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA); with certifications in Quality Matters, Intellipath Adaptive Learning, Online Instruction, Six Sigma – Black Belt, and as a Certified Professional in Health Quality (CPHQ).
On a personal note, Dr. Oestmann is an avid fisherman and wood-working craftsman. He and his wife Dr. Joanna Oestmann are empty-nesters with 4 grown children making their home in Fernandina Beach, FL.
