Dr. Leyva joined the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in 2009. She instructs Gross Anatomy II, Applied Anatomy I & II, Musculoskeletal Assessment I and II, Soft Tissue Interventions I and Musculoskeletal IV Clinical Reasoning courses.
Dr. Leyva obtained her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from California State University at Long Beach and her Doctor of Physical Therapy from the College of St. Scholastica. She has served as director and clinical instructor for a medical practice in San Diego, CA.
Dr. Leyva earned her certification as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties in 2009 and her Certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist in 2017. Dr. Leyva is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, including the Orthopedic, Sports and Education Academies, and the Imaging and Anatomy Education special interest groups. She is a member of the American Association of Anatomists and the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
In 2016, Dr. Leyva was awarded the inaugural Board Excellence Award from the University’s Board of Directors for Excellence in Teaching. She has special interests in musculoskeletal ultrasound and clinical anatomy research applications.
