Application and Selection Process

Application Review

Submitting your online application is an easy four-step process. Please read the How to Apply page for details about how to begin and complete your application. The admissions office will review all of the documents you submit: your online application, autobiography, statement of purpose, résumé, official transcripts, and GRE score.

Our staff will also calculate your GPA based on the required prerequisite coursework you have completed. You should not have more than three prerequisite courses in progress at the time you apply. If you have more than three in progress, please plan to apply for the next enrollment term.

Your GPA calculation will also include the last 45 hours of your completed coursework. This score excludes internships, practicums, and other electives that are not considered applicable to health science education.

Your completed application will be reviewed by the admissions committee only after the application deadline has passed. Initial application reviews typically conclude six to eight weeks after the deadlines listed for the full-time programs. Transitional and post-professional programs offer rolling admission and reviews are completed regularly.

Academic Score Requirements

The admissions committee reviews applicants holistically, but focuses first on academics. We evaluate your academic success by considering your prerequisite GPA, grade trend GPA (which we calculate based on your last 45 semester credits or 67.5 quarter units), and GRE score.

• Average GPAs and GRE scores tend to be higher for the fall deadline for the full-time DPT, MOT, and DUAL programs for all campuses
• Students accepted to our full-time programs have:

o GPAs that range from 3.3 to 3.7
o GRE scores that average between 295 and 305 (combined V+Q)

• FLEX programs students have:

o GPAs that range from 3.2 to 3.5
o GRE scores that range between a 290 and 300 (combined V+Q)

Admission Tips

In addition to these academic scores, the admissions committee will consider your essay, observation and work experience, and references during the application review. We encourage you to submit the most competitive application you can.

Here are some tips to strengthening your application:

• Retake any prerequisite course(s) you received a C in. Your prerequisite GPA is a big indicator of how successful you will be in our program. If you retake a course and receive a higher grade, we will only factor in the higher grade in the GPA we calculate.
• Take a GRE prep course. This score is another big indicator of your academic strength. Visit ETS for more information about the GRE.
• Get more experience in the profession. Completing more than the minimum of 80 observation hours in a variety of settings will strengthen your application and give you more insight into your chosen field.

The Interview Process

Once our application reviews are complete, we invite eligible applicants for on-campus interviews with a faculty member. Interviews are typically scheduled two months after the application deadline and continue over a two-week period. Please note that the review process for the FLEX Programs may exceed this timeline.

The interview is a very important step in the selection process. It allows both you and our faculty to determine if USA is the right institution to help you meet your career goals. During the interview, you will be asked to share your motivation for pursuing a degree at USA as well as details about your professional background and experiences.
