University to host the seminar for physical and occupational therapists interested in obtaining continuing education credits in the area of examination or treatment of the at risk or injured runner
Chicago, IL – April 17, 2017 – The University of St. Augustine Health Sciences (USAHS), a leading graduate institution that emphasizes health science education through innovative classroom education, is pleased to announce that the institution will present the “Running Rehabilitation: An Integrated Approach to the Examination and Treatment of the At Risk Runner” seminar for physical therapy and occupational therapy assistants looking for continuing education units, throughout the U.S.
A functional and biomechanical approach to examination and treatment of the at risk or injured runner will be presented during this 2 day seminar. A thorough review of the anatomy and biomechanics of running and walking is emphasized to understand normal mechanics and subsequent identification of dysfunction and/or compensation. Topic areas will include: functional anatomy and biomechanics of the lower extremity as it relates to gait, muscular and joint influencers of pathomechanics, examples of common running dysfunctions, case studies with video evidence and therapeutic exercises designed to specifically address identified areas of weakness. Information provided is based on current, best evidence. The heavy lab component of this course involves the clinical evaluation of joint and soft tissue dysfunction as they contribute to altered mechanics and injury. Treatment strategies including but not limited to manual techniques and sport specific exercise instruction designed to return the runner to pre-injury training will also be presented. Time will be allotted for the discussion of appropriate footwear prescription. Through this two day event, video evidence will be utilized to highlighting key points of interest.
At the completion of this course the attendee should be able to:
- Perform an appropriate OKC, CKC and Functional Evaluation of runners
- Perform an assessment of running gait through video analysis
- Identify abnormal running gait mechanics
- Identify typical compensatory strategies of the injured runner
- Develop treatment strategies and functional rehabilitation program based on examinations findings
