This seminar is designed for occupational therapy and physical therapist assistants who provide services to aging adults under the direction and supervision of therapists. The class will focus on the implications of aging on body structure and function. Topics include the use of standardized assessment tools for the aging adult, facilitation of learning in older adults, fall risk assessment and prevention measures, and implementing effective geriatric exercise programs within the plan of care. Lab activities will provide opportunities for participants to practice assessments and seminar concepts will be exercised during case studies.

Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this seminar, the attendee should be able to:
- Describe aging related changes in the musculoskclctal, neuromuscular, cardiovascular/pulmonary, and integumentary systems
- Identify implications for rehabilitation of aging of body systems
- Discuss indications and practical applications of s tandardized assessment tools for aging adults
- Describe strategies for facilitation of learning in older adults
- Implement effective exercise programs for older adults within the plan of care
- Discuss rehabilitation strategics for patients/clients with dementia
