Austin Campus Student Lifestyle – University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences
Current students at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences (USAHS) Austin campus describe a close-knit experience where they build strong relationships with both faculty and classmates. Students appreciate that their instructors are available when they need them and make an effort to get to know them beyond their coursework. Some students say their faculty relationships feel more like working with colleagues than simply being taught by instructors.
Students also describe their cohorts as close from the beginning, with friendships forming quickly and classmates supporting one another both in and outside of class. They see those relationships as valuable not only during school but also as connections they can carry into their future careers.
Living close to campus is another benefit students mention. Many students live within a few miles of campus, with nearby apartment options that make commuting convenient. Students also appreciate having housing choices that fit their budgets.
Outside of school, students enjoy exploring Austin and taking advantage of the city’s many restaurants, food trucks, outdoor trails, and activities. They describe Austin as welcoming and easy to feel at home in, with a mix of city life and a more relaxed atmosphere.
For students, the Austin experience extends beyond the classroom, combining close relationships with faculty and classmates with the convenience of living near campus and the opportunity to experience life in Austin.

[00:00:00] The thing that makes it for me is my teachers. [00:00:03] They’re so readily available. [00:00:05] They’ll come walk through and have a whole conversation about us. Not school, but our lives. [00:00:10] I think they’re really good at making us feel like we’re colleagues. [00:00:13] And they always will come do the social stuff with us. [00:00:15] And they really make an effort to know you here, and I think that’s a really big difference. [00:00:20] Everybody in my cohort’s amazing. [00:00:22] They’re just great people. [00:00:23] Our cohort is so tight-knit. [00:00:25] We have super close friends in our class, and we’ve just gotten to know each other so well so quickly. [00:00:31] It’s like a family. [00:00:31] Even on day one. [00:00:32] And I love that about it. [00:00:34] We’re going to be working together once we get out of school, so it’s just great to kind of have that camaraderie going right now. [00:00:41] Pretty much all of us live within, like, five miles of campus, and we leave about 15 minutes before school in the morning. [00:00:47] Super easy to get here. [00:00:48] They’ve got really nice apartments, and they’re really close by. [00:00:51] Right down the street from school. [00:00:52] You have that ability to kind of shop around. They’re really great for accommodating students, so they are very helpful with us, very cooperative. [00:00:59] It’s been really nice to be able to be so close, but still so affordable. [00:01:04] I love Austin. I love this area. It’s amazing. I love it out here. [00:01:07] Austin is very welcoming. It’s a big city, but it’s definitely a small big city. People are really fun. Got the Southern hospitality. [00:01:14] Everybody’s super welcoming in Texas. I feel like I’m at home. [00:01:17] There’s always something to do. There’s always something going on. [00:01:20] You’re never going to get bored. [00:01:21] Hipster, outdoorsy. The outdoor trails. It’s really fun. [00:01:27] One of my favorite things about the city is the variety in the food. I mean, there’s so many different restaurants and bars. [00:01:32] Definitely Tex-Mex, barbecue. Barbecue’s really big here. So many food trucks and places to go out.
