Joe Mildenhall
With expertise in operational growth, and enterprise risk and compliance, Joe Mildenhall is a highly experienced chief information officer (CIO) in leading information technology (IT) initiatives for publicly traded corporations, particularly within the higher education sector. Under his leadership, he has developed high-quality applications aimed at student acquisition, online course delivery and support administration. His focus has been on ensuring high availability, superior performance and security for large-scale applications.
Mildenhall was the chief information officer of Grand Canyon University and responsible for all IT-related functions, including application development, infrastructure, cyber security and student technical support for both on-campus and online students. His work contributed to the university’s technological growth, supporting a student base of more than 125,000.
Prior to his tenure at Grand Canyon University, Mildenhall held several leadership roles at Apollo Group Inc., including CIO from 2005 to 2009. Leading a team of more than 1,700 IT professionals, his expertise in driving large-scale technology initiatives contributed to the organization’s standing in online education and its technological infrastructure.
Mildenhall’s early career included leadership positions at National Computer Systems and J&K Computer Systems, where he contributed to software development for the education market.
A recognized thought leader in cyber security, cloud technologies, artificial intelligence and business analytics, Mildenhall has received numerous awards, including the Phoenix Business Journal CIO Award in 2012 and ComputerWorld’s Premier 100 IT Leader recognition in 2009.
He holds a Master of Business Administration in eBusiness from the University of Phoenix and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Brigham Young University.
