Karen Hill, DNP, RN, NEA-BC

Dr. Karen S. Hill is the chief operating officer and chief nursing officer of Baptist Health Lexington in Kentucky. In her more than 25 years of experience in hospital administration, she has led successful Magnet designation and re-designation efforts, developed shared governance structures, and chaired an operations and efficiency council.

She is editor-in-chief of The Journal of Nursing Administration, and has served as interim editor-in-chief of Nurse Educator. She is a frequent presenter and is well-published on nursing topics including leadership, workforce development, and recruiting and retention.

She has been recognized as one of the “50 Most Influential Graduates” of the University of Kentucky College of Nursing in 50 years. She is also the recipient of the HcPRO National Image of Nursing Award and the Cure, Care, Commitment R. Stewart Perry Award from the American Diabetes Association.

She earned an ADN at the Lexington Technical Institute and a BSN, MSN, and DNP at the University of Kentucky. Her direct patient-care experience early in her career includes working as a staff nurse in surgical services.

Rose Gonzalez, PhD, RN

Dr. Rose Gonzalez is an accomplished executive who served for more than 20 years in government relations leadership roles for the American Nurses Association. Currently, she is a consultant for the Movement is Life Caucus, where she provides healthcare expertise and strategic advice to the multi-disciplinary coalition seeking to eliminate racial and ethnic disparities in muscle and joint health.

As director of government relations for the American Nurses Association, she devised and executed strategies to strengthen relationships between the ANA, the U.S. Congress, the White House, federal agencies, and top nursing and professional organizations. She led the team that secured various nursing provisions in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, secured grant funding to launch and sustain the ANA’s Nurse Advocacy Institute and Nurse Institute Fellows, and oversaw the team charged with ANA PAC’s representation to the 2008 Democratic and Republican conventions.

She also held leadership roles in a number of professional associations, including vice president of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses and co-chair of the executive committee of the National Organizations Responding to AIDS. She is currently a member of the Greater Prince William Community Health Center Board of Directors and the National Project Advisory Committee of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Minority Health.

She earned a BS in Nursing from Mount Saint Mary College, an MPS in Health Care Administration from the State University of New York at New Paltz, and a PhD in Nursing from George Mason University.

Paula Kimpton, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, CNOR

Dr. Paula Kimpton is a family nurse practitioner who has worked in several settings, including emergency room, after-hours, and hematology and oncology. She is currently a family nurse practitioner in the orthopedic department at Dayton Veterans Administration Medical Center in Ohio.

Her experience in higher education includes serving as a preceptor for family nurse practitioner students at several universities, a clinical instructor in Wright State University’s College of Nursing and Health, an assistant professor of clinical nursing and coordinator of distance learning for the family nurse practitioner specialty at the University of Cincinnati, and a program director at Danville Community College.

She is a fellow of the Florence Nightingale Society and a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, American College of Nurse Practitioners, the Association of Operating Room Nurses, and the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society, Beta Iota Chapter. She has presented at the American Nurses Association Quality Conference and at Wright Patterson Air Force Base where she was a nurse practitioner.

She earned a BS in Nursing from the University of Cincinnati, an MS in Nursing Administration from Wright State University, a Family Nurse Practitioner Post Graduate Certificate from the University of Virginia, and a DNP from Wright State University.
