Dr. Birendra Dewan is a physical therapist and movement scientist whose work focuses on bridging movement science and clinical practice by translating principles of biomechanics and motor control into meaningful applications for rehabilitation. He joined the faculty at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in the summer of 2026 as a core faculty member in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program in Dallas. Prior to joining USAHS, he served on the faculty of the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York, where he taught for six years.
Dr. Dewan’s scholarly work examines the mechanisms underlying human movement, posture, and balance, with a focus on advancing objective approaches to assessment and guiding rehabilitation interventions. His work incorporates advanced biomechanical methods, including motion capture, electromyography, and force plate analysis, to study movement and postural control. He has published in peer-reviewed journals in rehabilitation and movement science and collaborates on interdisciplinary research aimed at improving clinical decision-making.
As an educator, Dr. Dewan is committed to fostering critical thinking and evidence-informed clinical reasoning. His teaching emphasizes building a strong foundation in movement science to support thoughtful, effective, and patient-centered care.
