As part of an exchange program between the University of St. Augustine and the Universidad de Andres Bellos (UNAB), Dr. Bonnie Decker, MOT Faculty, was an invited guest to teach a seminar on pediatric interventions. Dr. Cindy Mathena, VP/Dean of Post Professional Studies, kicked off the week of study by presenting a session titled “A Global Partnership in Occupational Therapy.” The week of activities was the kick-off event for a post-professional Diplomada in Pediatric Occupational Therapy. During the week Occupational Therapy professionals and students shared their ideas about how the two schools can work together, across boundaries, to educate and serve.
USA and UNAB have a rich history and friendship in manual therapy and the Dean of Rehabilitation Science Programs for UNAB, Dr. Mariano Rocabado, is a graduate and seminar instructor for USA. USA offers manual therapy seminars and certification in Chile.
This was also the first chance Dr. Decker had to experience hand-on teaching with an interpreter, which made for an exciting educational experience for everyone! The picture below was taken on the last day of the seminar to commemorate this amazing experience!
Stay tuned for future projects between the two universities!
